People travel Lake Tahoe for many reasons, and a new trend in the area lately has been termed geotourism. This is defined as tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character of a place, including its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage and community.

Lake Tahoe geotourism, as in other places, centers on an online map that pinpoints geotourism attractions in the region. The biggest of these in the Tahoe Emigrant Corridor is Lake Tahoe itself. Other sites include Camp Richardson, Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, Echo Lake, Thunderbird Lodge National Historic Site, Kirkwood Mountain Resort, Blue Angel Cafe and Tahoe City Farmer's Market. Geotourism attractions can be anything from restaurants, stores, lodges and hotels to recreation sites like trails and parks, as well as lakes, rocks, rivers, historic and cultural sites and events.

This spring is the best in a quarter century for skiers to take a Tahoe vacation. Resorts in the Lake Tahoe area are currently reporting the biggest snowfall totals in the last 25 years, and vacation packages here are surprisingly affordable.

The great skiing conditions are expected to be extended this year, offering sunny skies over a 40 foot blanket of snow on the slopes. Skiers will find non-stop action both on and off the slopes, thanks to an array of spring-break events and world-class competitions at all seven of the Tahoe resorts. The casino properties on the lake shore attract big name entertainment and offer non-stop gaming action. On the slopes surrounding Lake Tahoe you will find makeshift snow beaches, snow volleyball courts, ice bars and pond skimming, which are all unique features of the California spring skiing scene.
