elysian fields

With members hailing from Bucks and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania, Elysian Fields was a trio of young, idealistic art rock musicians inspired by Bauhaus, Joy Division, Iggy and the Stooges, The Police, The Cult and The Cure. They disbanded sometime in 1988, but this page is devoted to keeping the corpse on display.

Elysian Fields was

Christopher Davis: Guitar, Vocals
Christian Naugle: Drums
Rob Price: Bass

In the July 27th, 1988 issue of East Coast Rocker, Peter Brown wrote "[Elysian Fields] has intense dynamics. Their music tends to sneak up on you as songs start softly and build to crashing conclusions... [songs] that cross musical and lyrical categories and music that definitely has a vision..."

While the band was never signed, a number of cassettes with both studio tracks and live performances were circulated throughout the Delaware Valley. Among them were 1987's Cathedral and 1988's The 25th Hour. One track from each of these releases is available for MP3 download; see links at left.

After going their separate ways in the summer of 1988, the members of Elysian Fields went on to bigger and better things. Christopher Davis went to college, played bass for Mad Anthony Wayne and the Magnetic Jesus, went to grad school, worked in publishing, shaved his head, wrote a book, and ended up in web development. Christian Naugle formed Stephanie's Religion. And Rob Price? Rob became an electrician, grew his hair, lived in New Orleans, and survived Katrina.
